FAQs

Obstinate Garden – FAQ

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: What’s the difference between “made to order” and commissioned work?
A: Made-to-order refers to items we regularly produce that can be personalized by size, color, length, etc. We already have the pattern and materials on hand — you’re just picking your preferences. These products are available in our shop with options to customize.

Commissioned work means we’re creating a design from scratch. There’s no version of it in the shop. This involves drafting a new pattern and potentially sourcing special materials like unique leathers, dyes, or hardware. Currently, we only offer custom/commissioned work with an artisan consult and with a deposit of 50% due at the time of the consult.

Q: What does your SDS Sale mean?
A: SDS stands for Scratch, Dent, and Scrap.

Leather is a natural material full of personality — scratches, scars, folds, loose grain, and all kinds of quirks. While we try to use only the cleanest cuts, we end up with a lot of structurally sound but visually imperfect pieces. Instead of letting that go to waste, we turn it into more affordable gear. It’s eco-conscious and budget-friendly.

Q: Do you make leather clothing like jackets or pants?
A: No, we currently only make harnesses and accessories. Apparel manufacturing requires patterns in multiple sizes, large, consistent leather runs, and a lot more space than we have. We're a small two-person studio, and we like it that way.

SHIPPING & ORDERING

Q: When can I expect my order?
A:

  • Ready to Ship items: Ship within 3–5 business days.

  • Made-to-order items: Production time is listed on each product page. Typically, that’s 2–3 weeks for small items and 4–6 weeks for large items.

  • Custom/Commissioned pieces: Can take 8–12 weeks, depending on complexity.

Shipping times are additional and vary by location and carrier.

We ship Monday–Friday, excluding holidays. A signature may be required depending on the shipping method or order value.

Q: Is your packaging eco-friendly?
A: Yes! We use cardboard shipping boxes, biodegradable paper tape, PBAT compostable mailers, honeycomb kraft packing paper, and paper shipping labels.

Q: Is your shipping discreet?
A: Absolutely. Orders are packed in plain cardboard boxes and wrapped in black compostable mailers. The return label simply reads: OG CO.

Q: Do you offer free shipping?
A: Yes — free shipping is automatically applied to U.S. orders over $250.

Q: Can I rush my order? What if I pay extra?
A: No. We kindly ask for your patience. Obstinate Garden is a two-person team, and we do not offer rush production under any circumstances. Your order will ship based on our standard production timelines.

Q: What do you charge for domestic shipping (USA)?
A: Shipping is automatically calculated at checkout. If we overcharge you, we’ll refund the difference.

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes! We now offer global shipping. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. Please note: buyers are responsible for any customs duties or VAT.

Q: Do you have a storefront I can visit?
A: We don’t have a public studio, but you can find us at select events and shows. Check the [Event Page] for updates on where we’re vending or bootblacking.

RETURNS, EXCHANGES & REPAIRS

Q: Do you accept returns or exchanges?
A: Due to the intimate nature of our products, we do not accept returns. We treat these items the same way adult toy stores do — once they leave our studio, they are yours.

If your item arrives damaged or is lost in transit, the customer must file a claim with the shipping carrier.

Q: What if my item doesn’t fit?
A: We offer a one-time modification or remake on wearable items that are not worn in or around the genitals, anus, or mouth — this includes collars, cuffs, and chest harnesses.

  • You must request a resize within 14 days of delivery.

  • You pay to ship it to us; we’ll cover return shipping.

To request a resize, email ObstinateGarden@gmail.com.

Q: Do you offer repairs?
A: Yes. We offer:

  • One-time repair on items valued over $100 (valid for 2 years)

  • Lifetime repair warranty on items over $200

Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility. Items must be cleaned of bodily fluids before sending. Repairs are offered at our discretion. If you drive over your harness with a car — that's on you.

Please contact ObstinateGarden@gmail.com before sending any item in for repair.

Q: Do you offer bootblacking services?
A: Yes! We offer leather cleaning and conditioning at select events in the Pacific Northwest. Check the [Event Page] to see where we’ll be offering bootblacking.

Q: Do you offer wholesale purchasing?
A: Yes — for select products without custom sizing. If you’re interested in buying in bulk, email us at ObstinateGarden@gmail.com with details.

Q: Do you work with vegan leather?
A: No. Faux leather (even the plant-based kinds) degrades quickly and sheds microplastics. Even mushroom or cactus leather is blended with plastics. Real leather, by contrast, is a byproduct of the meat industry, can last decades, and biodegrades naturally. We also prioritize veg-tanned leather or responsibly sourced chrome-tanned options from eco-conscious tanneries. It’s the most sustainable option available.
